Leadership & Development Sessions
The Stubblefield Institute for Civil and Political Communications at Shepherd University has joined in the collaboration for the Shepherd L.E.A.D.S. (LEADS) program to provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills that will support them personally and professionally. Through this collaboration, students will be provided with experiences geared towards empowering them as they learn ways to contribute to the success of their local and national communities. As new members of the Shepherd community, first-year students will be guided and supported through the LEADS program by faculty, staff, and a select group of returning students trained to as peer mentors.
Program sessions focused on empowerment, development and leadership:
Understanding personality differences | Problem Solving | Civility Discussions |
Introduction to Leadership | Introduction to Self-Advocacy | Power of Communication |
Building Resiliency | Campus Engagement | Serving Your Community |
Our mentors will work side by side with the incoming students to share their experiences and lead various activities. By participating in the LEADS leadership programming and receiving mentorship by our current students, incoming students will:
- Connect with their campus community to form meaningful and supportive networks.
- Expand their abilities to communicate effectively, navigate conflict, problem-solve, and build bridges across perceived differences.
- Focus on creating strategies for successful personal development and leadership impact.
- Learn how various methods of leadership will support them and their communities.
- Gain leadership credits toward the Stubblefield Insitute Civil Leadership & Advocacy Certificate.
