Dr. Valerie L. Stevens joined Shepherd University as a lecturer in the Department of English and Modern Languages in 2019. Prior to coming to Shepherd, Dr. Stevens taught classes in writing, literature, and film at James Madison University and the University of Kentucky. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky and has published pieces on novelist Olive Schreiner, literary representations of animals, and other topics. When Dr. Stevens is not teaching, reading, or writing, her hobbies include cooking food, eating food, taking pictures of food to post on the Internet, and hanging out with her cats.
