Undergraduate Positions

Resident Assistants (RAs)

RAs are student leaders who serve their residence hall and floor residents, creating positive communities and meaningful engagement to enhance the on-campus living experience.

• Applications open annually. Interviews in early Spring are for the following academic term.
Apply by visiting Residence Life’s RamPulse page. The application is found under “Forms.”
Residence Life employs around 30+ RAs per academic year.
RAs are compensated with full room and meal plan cost waivers.

Office & postal Assistant

Office and Postal assistants are student employees who works in the main Residence Life Office. Responsibilities include front-end customer service, answering phones, paperwork management, and other office functions. Students also assist in mail and package processing, delivery, and documentation.

• Position opens are as needed. Please contact Robin Hosby at rhosby@shepherd.edu for availability.
• Compensation is an hourly minimum wage rate with a max of 25 hours per week.

Residence Hall Improvement Crew (RHIC)

RHIC crew members are student employees who focus on facilities work. Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to painting, moving room items, furniture repairs, cleaning, and more.

• Applications open each Spring semester for the Summer. Occasionally positions open during the academic year.
• Please check student employment or contact Ellisa Woodbrey for more information.
RHIC position numbers vary from year to year.
More positions are available in summer than during the school year.
• RHIC members are compensated at an hourly minimum wage rate with a max of 25 hours per week.

Administrative Conference Assistants (ACAs)

ACAs are a summer position that provide customer service to the organizations who bring their members and camps to Shepherd to utilize our residence halls. Responsibilities include checking in and out conference attendees, cleaning rooms, maintaining inventories, and more.

• Applications open each Spring semester for summer student employment.
ACA positions vary from summer to summer depending on need.
ACAs are compensated at an hourly minimum wage rate with a max of 25 hours per week.
ACAs may choose to hold the ACA and OCA position simultaneously.
ACAs may choose to hold the ACA and Summer RA position simultaneously.

Overnight Conference Assistants (OCAs)

OCAs are a summer position that provide customer service to the organizations who bring their members and camps to Shepherd to utilize our residence halls. OCAs main responsibility is to provide overnight customer service through accessibility through a duty number to assess concerns that conference attendees may have. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general administrative tasks, maintaining inventories, cleaning rooms, and checking in and out guests.

OCA position numbers vary each year depending on need.
OCAs are compensated with full room waivers for Summer terms.
OCAs will be living in a campus room, but will live in other halls when on duty for conferences as needed.
OCAs may choose to hold the ACA and OCA position simultaneously.

Summer Resident Assistants

RAs are leaders who serve in residence halls across campus on a floor of residents where they create positive communities and provide fun and educational events to enhance the on-campus living experience.

• Applications open each Spring semester for summer student employment.
Apply by visiting Residence Life’s RamPulse page and finding the application under “Forms”.
Summer RA position numbers vary each year depending on need.
RAs are compensated with full room waivers for summer terms, and they will live in the apartments.
Previous RA experience is highly desired.

Graduate Positions

Hall Directors (HDs)

HDs are leaders who serve in residence halls for a building of residents where they create positive communities and provide fun and educational events to enhance the on-campus living experience.

• Applications open annually and as-needed. Please contact the Director of Residence Life for more info.
• 12 Month Position – 25 hours per week ($12,500 earning potential per year).
Up to 16 credit waiver for Shepherd University graduate courses per academic year.
HDs are provided with an apartment, meal plan, access to free laundry, and convenient parking.
HDs also are permitted to have partners and some pets live with them. Please ask for details.
Candidates must be an admitted/enrolled in the College Student Development and Administration Program (CSDA) or other graduate program.
Most candidates for the position choose to participate in and interview during the CSDA Preview Program.

Practicums & Internships

Residence Life welcomes interested practicum students who wish to gain experience in Housing Assignments, Facilities Management, Conferences Services, and more. The department also has several internships available. Interns receive room waivers.
