Wi-Fi set-up instructions for students

The Shepherd wireless network is available to students, faculty and staff. The network is called RamNet.

It is available in all academic, administrative, common and residential buildings.

We are constantly trying to improve coverage, but there are some spots where there is not coverage or the coverage is weak. If you find a spot which has a weak connection or no coverage, please contact the IT Service Desk so we are aware of it.

Student owned laptops, tablets and smartphones must be registered to connect through our Wi-Fi network to the Internet. Personal devices are allowed access to the internet only. Windows systems require an active and up-to-date anti-virus system in order to pass the registration process.

To get connected, here are the steps to generally follow:

  1. Go into your device’s listed Wi-Fi networks and look for RamNet.
  2. Select RamNet.
  3. If the settings come up, select PEAP, MSCHAPV2, and Do not Validate Certificate.
  4. If you are asked for the Domain, it is Shepherd.edu
  5. You will be asked for your Shepherd credentials (Shepherd username (everything before the @ in your Shepherd email address) and your password for your account (same one you use for Shepherd email, Brightspace, everything but the RAIL system)).

NOTE: The RamNet Wi-Fi network is replacing the registration Wi-Fi network we previously used. RamNet will be in place just a little before the start of Fall 2024 classes. As we find out necessary changes, we will revise this documentation, so please be patient and check this page for changes.

If you need more assistance, please contact IT Services Desk at x5457 or e-mail itworkorder@shepherd.edu to submit a ticket to our system.
