This program gives you a unique opportunity to work directly with one of the country’s top test prep specialists – Barron’s test prep author Jay B. Cutts, MA, (Barron’s MCAT and LSAT prep books).
Mr. Cutts has over 30 years test prep experience and has been a pioneer in the development of powerful intuitive strategies for mastering logical, scientific, and verbal problem-solving and timing strategies for the MCAT. Mr. Cutts specializes in personalized instruction tailored to the specific needs of the student.
Our program includes both classroom-style sessions (June-August) and personal coaching with Mr. Cutts. Classes are conducted via video conferencing. There are seven four-hour classes, each on a unique content area of the test, including one class specifically on CARS and scientific problem-solving strategy.
The personal coaching covers all MCAT strategy but does not include coaching on science review. The classroom sessions are primarily science review. Classroom instructors work with you in a hands-on review of actual MCAT questions. You do additional science review through our printed and online materials.
Why this program? Personal coaching is the best way to learn the timing, testing, and problem-solving strategies necessary to master the MCAT. Many commercial prep programs offer little or no personal coaching. Those that do are often very expensive and the coaches often have only a few years experience. Most focus on content review and do not offer substantial help with strategy. We are excited to offer you a chance to work directly with one of the top MCAT strategy experts at a reasonable price. In addition to coaching, the classroom sessions use a unique, hands-on approach to learning how to apply your science knowledge to actual MCAT questions.
Course Structure and Dates
January through May – Begin at any time. Weekly personal coaching sessions with Mr. Cutts
June through August– Weekly four-hour classroom-style sessions via Zoom for seven weeks.
August through December – Continue weekly personal coaching
What is MCAT Strategy? Nearly 75% of the questions that a typical student gets wrong on the MCAT are missed because of strategy, not because of lack of science. Many of our students get the score that they need simply by improving their timing strategy. When timing is combined with powerful problem-solving strategies for CARS and the science sections, most students can achieve their highest potential.
The MCAT Strategy Personal Coaching is provided by Jay Cutts, the lead author of the Barron’s MCAT prep book. The program prepares students for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).
The program includes up to thirty hours of personal coaching help for a period of 12 months from the date of registration. Coaching can be used for any aspect of the MCAT other than science content review. You get science review help in the classes. Up to one hour of the thirty coaching hours can be used for admissions issues other than the MCAT.
This program also includes twenty eight hours of classroom-style content and strategy review via video conferencing (such as Zoom), in seven 4-hour sessions. The classroom sessions take place during the summer and emphasize hands-on work with actual MCAT questions.
Mr. Cutts works with you directly by phone and video conferencing. He gives you specific assignments, reviews your progress, and teaches you advanced strategies. He creates a study plan for you and advises you on all of the aspects of admissions. Students typically work with him once or twice each week. Sessions can be as long or short as needed.
Enrollment in this course includes registration in the STEPS to the MCAT program, an online study system. STEPS also puts you in touch with potential study partners.
You will learn how to control and use your time more effectively on all sections of the test, as well as how to avoid the most common timing pitfalls. You will learn how to skim CARS passages for structure and tools for distinguishing between two very close answer choices.
You will learn how to efficiently set up passages on the science sections and how to skim for the essential elements of the passage. You will learn how to gain points through testing strategies such as process of elimination and estimation. You will learn how to effectively read graphs and charts and use logic to get correct answers. You will learn a wide range of scientific problem solving tools. You will learn tools for working two answer choices against each other to find the correct answer.
The strategies taught in this program have been tested and refined over 30 years of test prep experience with over a thousand students worldwide.
