The Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Engineering (CME) offers a variety of B.S. degree programs designed to help you launch your technology career. CME is the largest department within the College of CSTEM. CME offers math, engineering, data, and computer classes in Byrd Science Hall, Snyder Hall, and Stutzman-Slonaker Hall.
Mission Statement
- To enhance the education of students by instilling in them the love and excitement of the mathematical, computer, and engineering sciences and their applications.
- To prepare students for employment and productive careers.
- To promote lifelong learning and provide students with the expertise and knowledge to continue their education at the graduate level.
STEM Scholarship
CME students can win scholarships of up to $10,000 thanks to funding from the National Science Foundation and Shepherd’s NSF S-STEM program run by Dr. Qing Wang, Professor of Mathematics. Awards are based on scholarship and need. This is one of several scholarship opportunities for CME students.
Other Opportunities
- Study abroad! Shepherd University has an exchange student agreement with Zurich University of Applied Science, School of Engineering. ZHAW has degree programs in computer science, data science, engineering, and more. Shepherd students pay Shepherd tuition while taking a semester in Switzerland.
- The Shepherd University Robotics Club builds robots for state-wide competitions. Post Covid, the club hopes to revive its annual Shep Robo Fest. Ask any CME professor.
- Thanks to a grant from the NASA West Virginia Space Consortium, the CME department offers fellowships for undergraduates to pursue independent research projects with a faculty mentor. Ask any CME professor. Applications are due every October.
- Internship for credit! CME encourages students to find internships in the technical fields and get credit toward their degrees. See Opportunities and Applying for Credit.
