Summer Music Programs

String Orchestra Camp for both Jr. and Sr. levels

Students enrolled in grades 8-12 during the 2019-2020 academic year are invited to participate in the Sr. String Orchestra Camp. Faculty include Dr. Scott Hippensteel, Heather Austin-Stone, Teresa Gordon, and Camilo Pérez-Mejía. Highlights of the camp include string orchestra rehearsals and a concert, individual and group coaching, chamber music and string quartets, master classes, and faculty performances. Students in grades 3 – 7 are invited to register for the Jr. String Orchestra Camp, directed by Teresa Gordon. This camp will meet from 9am – 12:00pm each day, with a final performance on June 26 for family and friends. If your child is in grades 6-7 and you are not sure which camp to register for, please contact Sherry Sykes to discuss placement, ssykes@shepherd.edu. Some advanced students in grades 6 and 7 may be allowed to audition for the Sr. String Camp.

Auditions for Senior String Camp seating will take place on the first day of camp, June 22, 2020. *Advanced 6th and 7th graders may also audition for the Senior String Camp with prior approval from the camp faculty and Sherry Sykes, coordinator of the camps.

Highlights of the camp include jazz band rehearsals and a concert for both the Junior and Senior levels, individual and group coaching, combo/improvisation classes, theory classes, master classes, and faculty performances. Students enrolled in grades 6-12 during the 2019 – 20 academic year are invited to participate. College students and jazz enthusiasts are also welcome!
