Shepherd Youth Chorus goes virtual!
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Shepherd Youth Chorus will meet virtually on ZOOM. Male and female vocalists who are currently in grades 3-8 are encouraged to participate. All children are invited to participate for Free for the spring semester. Dr. Austin Showen, Shepherd University’s Director of Music Education, will lead the students through fun music activities, including singing, song writing, and group music discussion, all from the comfort of your home. This virtual class will incorporate Zoom, Google Classroom and possibly Soundtrap platforms. If your child loves to sing and would like to meet virtually with other students interested in songwriting, please contact Sherry Sykes to register for this FREE class. The Community Music program is pleased to announce a 10 week virtual class for Shepherd Youth Chorus participants. Dr. Austin Showen, Professor and Director of Music Education at Shepherd University School of Music will lead the students who are currently in grades 3-8.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the chorus will meet virtually for FREE on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm – 7:00pm beginning January 20, 2021 – April 21, 2021. Unfortunately, students will not be performing on the Frank Center stage this year. We look forward to 2021-22 to the possibility of live concerts again.

Dr. Austin Showen, Assistant Professor, is Director of Music Education at Shepherd University. He is a West Virginia native and a proud alumnus of Shepherd University where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education. He also holds a Master of Music Education with Kodály certification from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and recently completed his doctorate in music education at Arizona State University.
