BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

The business administration risk management and insurance concentration is designed to provide students with both quantitative and behavioral skills that prepare students for the wide variety of careers available in the risk management and insurance industry. It aims to apprise students with the understanding of the concepts of risk management, financial planning, and insurance. The broad spectrum of courses in this concentration will identify, analyze, and manage the risks involved in the business environment and the risks that individuals face on a personal level.
Within the insurance industry, the use and understanding of analytics has transformed business practices and introduced new job functions that did not exist five years ago. Analytics is revolutionizing the business world including the risk management and insurance industry. Companies are adding analytics positions at a rate five times faster than the national employment growth rate. The program will provide students a high employability and the skill sets needed for the risk management and insurance industry.

ACCREDITATIONS

Shepherd University’s Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Business Administration are accredited through the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

CAREERS

Graduates of the program will have a high career opportunity in the insurance and risk management industry.  In a 2017 report published by the Insurance Journal, a potential deficit of 400,000 positions will go unfilled according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Jacobson Group, an insurance industry watchdog and recruiting firm. The jobs in the industry include:  underwriters, claims adjusters, sales agents, actuaries, risk managers, financial and risks analysts, compliance and international auditors, and loss control consultants.
