The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the Alzheimer’s Association’s largest fundraising and awareness event. Each year thousands of walks are held across the country, including 12 here in West Virginia. The walk raises money to support the programs and services the Alzheimer’s Association provides for families and caregivers facing the disease, as well as to support the necessary research to find a cure. Every fall Shepherd University Nursing students take part in the Alzheimer’s Association’s Eastern Panhandle Walk in Martinsburg, WV. This year’s walk took place on September 29, 2018.
Relay for Life
Each year, over 4 million people in over 20 countries participate in Relay for Life events. Shepherd University is proud to take part in Relay for Life to help honor cancer survivors, remember those lost, and help raise money to fight a disease that has taken so much. The Student Nurses’ Association created a team to participate in this year’s annual event and raised over $2,270! The team consisted of Aubrey Casteel, Carrie Boone, Katelyn Dolly, Alyssa Larco, Jasmine Stevenson, Kaitlyn Heginbotham, Samantha Lowe, Sarah Swailes, Morgan Froebe, Kayla Chisko, Logan Keith, Katelynn Metz-Murphy and Rachel Krowpman.
The Student Nurses Association participated in Shepherd’s 16th annual Shep-or-Treat on October 26, 2016. An interactive game of “pin the band-aid on Frankenstein’s boo boo” was a total success with the kids!
