The Department of Nursing Education held a White Coat Ceremony on September 8 for the Doctor of Nursing Practice class of August 2020 and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing class of May 2019. President Mary J.C. Hendrix was also presented with a special white coat to honor her role as a noted cancer researcher. Keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Mimi Secor, an educator, author, and consultant in the nursing field.

Shepherd’s White Coat Ceremony began in October 2014 when Shepherd’s nursing program was one of 100 programs nationwide and the only program in West Virginia to be chosen to take part in the new initiative. The White Coat Ceremony promotes compassionate and patient-centered care.
