SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Nonprofits and Shepherd University groups addressing critical community needs are invited to submit letters of inquiry to Women Investing in Shepherd (WISH) for the group’s 2024 awards, which will total $160,500. WISH will award three nonprofit grants of $26,750 each and three Shepherd University learning project grants of $26,750 each for the 2024 grant cycle.

Applicant organizations must have a current 501 (c) (3) public charity determination from Internal Revenue Service and must be based in and primarily serving one or more of the following counties: Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan, and Hampshire counties in West Virginia; Frederick, Loudoun, and Clarke counties in Virginia; and Frederick and Washington counties in Maryland.

Organizations and groups affiliated with Shepherd must be university sanctioned. Applicants submitting an inquiry by March 10 will be notified about eligibility to submit a formal grant proposal.

In 2023, WISH awarded four grants totaling $142,000 collectively to community nonprofits Girls on the Run Shenandoah Valley and Jefferson County Community Ministries, and Shepherd University’s environmental studies and social work programs.

WISH, a women’s giving circle comprised of both alumnae and community members, was established in 2014 by the Shepherd University Foundation and was created to educate, engage, and empower women to achieve their philanthropic goals.
