Travis Shaw to present February 24 lecture on Potomac Home Brigade

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War will present Travis Shaw, public programs coordinator at the Mosby Heritage Area Association (MHAA), on Sunday, February 24, at 5 p.m. at the Town Run Tap House and Community Pub, 202 E. Washington St.

Shaw will present his lecture “‘The Rebels is running over our Parents’: Recruiting Virginia Unionists into the Potomac Home Brigade,” which will explore the history of the Potomac Home Brigade and the Virginia Unionists, who sought refuge there during the Civil War. The event is free and open to the public. While the kitchen at Town Run will be closed during the lecture, drinks will be available for purchase.

Shaw has more than a decade of experience in the fields of historic preservation, archaeology, and museum education, working with both private and public institutions. Prior to joining MHAA, he spent time at Historic St. Mary’s City, Mount Vernon, and Oatlands Historic House and Gardens.
