SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The second annual Storm-Kersey Memorial Scholarship Kayak Football Tournament and Silent Auction will take place at the Shepherd University Wellness Center pool on Saturday, November 10, from 4-9 p.m. Money raised from this Veterans Day weekend event will benefit the Storm-Kersey Memorial Scholarship fund, which offers general academic scholarships to veterans who graduate from a Team River Runner chapter and enroll at Shepherd.
Kayak football is a blend of football, soccer, water polo, and cut-throat kayaking. It is used as a skills training tool, a social event, a physical challenge, and a way for Team River Runner members to have fun. The event will include activities such as a Most Bodacious Beard contest, Battle of the Floaties, Submarine Kayak Race and Paddle Swim, and Highest Cannonball competition.
Team registration is $100 and individual participant registration is $25 in advance and $30 the day of the event. Admission for nonparticipants is $10.
Sponsors include Smallwood and Small Insurance, Rations Café, Shepherdstown Pedal and Paddle, Liberty Mountain Resort, Rhythm and Wellness in the Eastern Panhandle and the Shenandoah Valley, Black Dog Coffee, Dirt Bag Paddlers, and Calleva.
