Students and alum present at Young Scholars Literary Symposium

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WVFour members of Shepherd University’s Rude Mechanicals Medieval and Renaissance Players presented at the Young Scholars Literary Symposium hosted by Shenandoah University on October 28. 

Education majors Julie Bowen, Baker, West Virginia, and Olyvia Thompson, Martinsburg, West Virginia, alongside communication and new media major Rachel Carroll, Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and English alum L Leavitt, Charles Town, West Virginia, presented their research titled “Queer Interpretations of Shakespeare.” During the presentation, the group performed scenes from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Romeo and Juliet.”

The theme of this year’s symposium was “Celebrating Shakespeare” in honor of the 400th anniversary of the First Folio, the first reliable printed collection of Shakespeare’s plays.
