Speak Story Series to host June 9 online performance by Laura Packer

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Speak Story Series, part of Shepherd University’s Center for Appalachian Studies and Communities, presents Laura Packer performing The Adventures of Crazy Jane and Red Haired Annie and other stories in an online performance Tuesday, June 9, at 7:30 p.m. All attendees must register at speakstoryseries.com, using an email address where they expect to receive the link for the concert. Registration is $12, and free to season ticket holders. Speak is for adult audiences, but mature youth are allowed at their guardian’s discretion.

Packer has been performing, coaching, writing, consulting, giving keynotes, and leading the storytelling field for more than 25 years. She knows the best way to the truth is through a good story and that this universally accessible art form creates empathy, builds bridges, and has the power to change the world. Packer is the recipient of many awards, including the 2018 Minnesota GrandSlam Champion, best in Fringe in Kansas City in 2016 and 2018, the J. J. Reneaux Mentoring Grant from the National Storytelling Network in 2016, finalist in the 2009 and 2010 Boston Story Slam series, presenter at the 2012 Ciudad de las Ideas Festival, winner of the 2010 National Storytelling Network Oracle Award, and 2012 League for the Advancement of New England Storytelling Brother Blue Award. She is a past chair of the New England Storytelling Conference, past board member of both the League for Advancement of New England Storytelling and the National Storytelling Network, and current board member of StoryArtsMN.
