SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education at Shepherd University is presenting an exhibit of political cartoons from the Robert C. Byrd Congressional Collection, developed with help from students Robert Williams, Lorelai Williams, and Elizabeth Cushwa.
The exhibit is on view September 25 through October 25, 2026, throughout the center’s first floor and lower level.
Williams compiled information about cartoons in the collection as part of his summer internship at the Byrd Center. Lorelai Williams and Elizabeth Cushwa helped prepare the display and accompanying text.
Featuring editorial art created between 1968 and 1993, the exhibit explores public perceptions of Senator Robert C. Byrd during his congressional career. Topics include his rise to Senate leadership, his relationships with presidents, and commentary on the federal funding he brought to West Virginia.
