SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The annual Scarborough Society Gala to support Shepherd University’s Scarborough Library took place August 12 at the Bavarian Inn. The black-tie optional event embraced the whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland, based on the classic novel by Lewis Carroll.

The evening featured decorative touches that transformed the Bavarian Inn into a gardenlike wonderland. Flower-filled silver pots and teacups adorned the tabletops while a porcelain white rabbit perched among the food. Food included a selection of passed entrees, enticing food stations, and decadent Alice in Wonderland-themed desserts.

“Over the past 20 years, we have been successful in raising more than $1 million for the short-and long-term needs of the Library, with the gala providing a large portion of the funding,” said Ray Alvarez, Scarborough Society president. “We are proud of the success of our Friends of the Library membership organization. We are grateful for the continued sponsorship support from outstanding corporate citizens and for the community members who attend this elegant evening each year.”
