SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Three Shepherd University business administration majors did well during the annual West Virginia Innovation and Business Model Competition that took place April 9 at Marshall University. Shepherd was one of four universities competing with two teams.

Through the guidance of Dr. James Dovel, assistant professor of business, Shepherd was well-represented by Brittany McKnight, Inwood, West Virginia, and the team of Daniel Goodavage, Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Miguel Aguillar, Inwood, West Virginia. Each team presented a proposed venture to address needs in the business economy surrounding Shepherd.

Sagittarius Esthetics, a venture concept presented by McKnight, aims to provide new, innovative, and breakthrough personal care services to the region. Services will include the best practices and the use of innovative products to deliver high-quality skincare and personal care education.

CM Solutions, a venture concept presented by the team of Aguillar and Goodavage, would provide specific entrepreneurial services to former military personnel by raising their participation in entrepreneurship and tapping into their gained experience, wisdom, and knowledge.

McKnight won third place in the competition and was awarded a minimum of $1,000. Aguillar and Goodavage were awarded $500 for reaching the final round of the competition.

Dovel has helped students throughout the past years formulate business plans for this competition and has guided them through the process.

“Students benefit from the competition through the experience of creating and delivering high-quality presentations, networking with similar-minded students and professionals, and advancing their businesses with funding and investor contacts,” Dovel said.
