SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Speak Story Series, part of Shepherd University’s Appalachian Studies Program, presents Donald Davis on Tuesday, September 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Reynolds Hall. Admission is $12 at the door, with express entry for Speak season ticket holders, and free to full-time Shepherd University students with a valid Rambler ID. Speak is for adult audiences. Mature youth are allowed at their guardian’s discretion.

Davis, a retired United Methodist minister, was born in a Southern Appalachian mountain world rich in stories. While he heard many traditional stories about heroic characters, he was most attracted to the stories of his own family and places of origin. Davis began retelling the stories he heard and then adding his own new stories until he was repeatedly asked to “tell it again, on purpose.” The author of 18 books and more than 40 original recordings, Davis is the recipient of both the Circle of Excellence and the Lifetime Achievement awards from the National Storytelling Network.
