School of Nursing to host June 3 photobiomodulation workshop

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s School of Nursing is hosting a Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT) and Wound Management Training Course on Thursday, June 3, from 8-5 p.m. in Erma Ora Byrd Hall. The course will offer eight continuing education units in nursing and is free; however, registration is required.

The interactive training course will outline a model for understanding PBMT mechanisms, discuss established protocols utilized for wound care and oral mucositis, and review case studies showing the effective application of PBMT. Participants will have the opportunity for experiential learning in this training course.

Speakers will be James Carroll, founder and CEP, Thor Photomedicine, Ltd.; Dr. Praveen Arany, assistant professor, oral biology and biomedical engineering, School of Dental Medicine, Engineering and Applied Sciences, University at Buffalo; and Dr. Robert Bowen, Berkeley Medical Center Wound Care.

This program is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of a grant totaling $2.7 million.
