SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Shepherd University Foundation announces the creation of an endowed scholarship award in support of accounting majors at Shepherd University. The Roger Hamood Accounting Student Endowment was established by alumni, friends, colleagues, and students of Roger Hamood in recognition of 41 years of service to the accounting program at Shepherd University.

Hamood joined the Shepherd faculty in 1978 as an assistant professor of accounting in the Division of Business Administration. During his four-decade tenure, he served the Shepherd accounting program as an instructor, professor, and department chair, taught more than 6,500 students, and co-founded the West Virginia Council of Accounting Educators. In 2002, he was named Accounting Educator of the Year by the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. Hamood retired in 2018.

“Today, a degree from Shepherd University with a major in accounting is highly respected among future employers,” said Hamood. “Our students, upon graduation and in some cases before earning their degree, have little difficulty obtaining employment in the field. I hope that over the past 41 years, I have touched the lives of our students in a positive manner. It has been an honor and pleasure to be part of the faculty over this time period.”

Funds from the Roger Hamood Accounting Student Endowment are designated for the benefit of accounting students and may be used for scholarship awards, part-time student funding, and student travel for school functions.
