SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The 2020-2021 Shepherd University School of Music Salon Series, sponsored by Jefferson Security Bank, now kicks off Friday, October 2, after the first concert of the season on Friday September 25 had to be postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
All Salon Series concerts will be broadcast online on Friday evenings beginning at 7:30 p.m. Concerts include:
- Friday, October 2—“The State of American Trombone Music” with adjunct trombone professor James Martin and staff piano accompanist Dr. Julianna Martin-Hayward featuring American trombone works by contemporary composers Eric Ewazen, Anthony Barfield, Anthony Plog, and Frank Gulino.
- Friday, October 23—adjunct tuba professor Dr. Simon Wildman, accompanied by pianist Dr. Julianna Martin-Hayward, presents “For the Students,” a collection of music brought to the studio by the students and stalwarts from the repertoire.
- Friday, January 15—adjunct faculty and bassist Robin Rhodes, percussionist Scott Patterson, and vocalist Max Bent will perform selections from AfroHouse’s house concert experimentation, featuring Afrofuturistic music that is disruptive, exuberant, innovative, emergent, and transformative, with beats, noise, and lush harmonies.
- Friday, April 2—faculty pianist Dr. Yu-Hsuan Liao, clarinetist David Drosinos, and cellist Peréz-Mejía.
The fall performances are being recorded on the Frank Center stage to be broadcast on target dates. Tickets cost $5 per family and can be purchased online in advance at https://www.shepherd.edu/music/event-ticket-and-registrations. A link to the concert broadcast will be sent by email prior to the event and will remain live for 48 hours.
