SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Auditions for Shepherd University’s Rude Mechanicals Medieval and Renaissance Players spring production are Wednesday, January 11, and Thursday, January 12, from 8-10:30 p.m. in Reynolds Hall. Anyone age 16 and older can audition for three short plays by Shepherd senior creative writing majors and a short medieval play.
Allex Benedict, Shepherdstown, wrote “femiNAZI,” a feminist political satire in which two stereotypical frat boys are sent to an alternative dimension with a militant matriarchy. Julia Athey, Charles Town, wrote “It was All a Miss Understanding,” which is a visually engaging performance art piece about love, death, and misunderstanding. Chace Jones, Martinsburg, wrote “Incredible Indiscretions,” a campy revenge play with multiple twists and turns. The medieval play is an updating of the 15th century “Woman Taken in Adultery,” a play about the triumph of love over discrimination and hate, focusing on LGBTQ+ and women’s rights in 2017.
Shepherd University students earn three credits for acting or participating behind the scenes. Students may audition for one or several plays. For more information, contact Dr. Betty Ellzey at bellzey@shepherd.edu.
