Phi Beta Delta international honor society inducts new members

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s chapter of Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars inducted 11 new members during a ceremony on April 2. Phi Beta Delta is dedicated to recognizing scholarly achievement in international education, promoting the international experience, and supporting academically based international programming.

Four students, six faculty and staff, and one community member were inducted. Student inductees were Sean Murtagh, Shepherdstown; Carlos Castillo, Ranson; Rosa Raez-Garcia, Frederick, Maryland; and Valentina Preciado Bello, Bogota, Columbia. Faculty and staff inductees include Dr. David Hixson, adjunct instructor of geography; Dr. Rachel Krantz, associate professor of French; Dr. Scott Beard, provost; Dow Benedict, dean, College of Arts and Humanities; Dr. Ann Wendle, acting graduate program coordinator; and Eva Olsson, intensive English language instructor. Community member Michelle Reid, was also inducted.

The keynote speaker for the event was Abdoul Salam Bello, advisor to the executive director of the World Bank Group for numerous African countries.
