SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Phaze 2 Gallery will feature an exhibit titled “Around the Block” by alumna Nevada Tribble November 9-January 22, 2021.

“As it has for many people, the geographic size of my life has shrunk over these past few months with the pandemic,” Tribble said. “I spend most of my time in about a three-block area, the same area where I grew up. ‘Around the Block’ is a collection of stories, moments, and memories from my life in this neighborhood, a place that has come to mean a lot to me.”

Tribble said she uses a mixture of fiber art techniques in her work, bending or abandoning the rules of tradition to suit her purposes.

“I use a sewing machine as my pencil to ‘draw’ with thread on handmade paper,” she said. “Sewing to me represents something very hopeful: the power to mend and alter, and the potential of traditional wisdom applied to the modern world.”

Tribble said “Around the Block” is a statement of hope, as well as personal reminder of the things that give her hope.

Phaze 2 Gallery operations have been modified to ensure the safety of visitors and gallery attendants. There are limited daily hours in which attendants will be on hand to monitor the flow of traffic and maintain safe distancing and mask usage. Artist receptions have all been canceled.

Phaze 2 Gallery is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2-4 p.m. or by appointment. For more information about the exhibit or to schedule a visit, contact Evan Boggess, gallery director, at eboggess@shepherd.edu.
