SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University Music presents “New Music—a music theater revue,” an evening of contemporary music theater selections, on Friday, October 3, and Saturday, October 4, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 5 at 3 p.m. in the Frank Center Theater.
The performance will feature solos, duets, and ensemble numbers from “Chess,” “Follies,” “Sunday in the Park with George,” “Songs for a New World,” “The Last Five Years,” “Little Women,” and “Ragtime.”
Directed by Dr. Robert Tudor, director of vocal activities and music department chair, the program will be tied together with a narrative that explores developments in contemporary musicial theater that include world politics, historic fiction, the birth and death of young love, and the human struggle with mortality.
“The students in the revue have enjoyed exploring what was considered contemporary by their parents, as well as shows that have appeared on and off Broadway in the last 10 years,” Tudor said.
Miranda Bias, Jordan Bushong-Taylor, Cara Hummel, Candace Kenney, Emily Reinhardt, Eduardo Rivera, Alexandra Rosle, Matthew Rothenberg, Ross Tamaccio, and Cullen Byers are Shepherd students featured in this production.
“New Music—a music theater revue” is $10 for general admission, $5 for students 18 and under, and free for Shepherd students with a valid Rambler ID and Friends of Music MAC Cardholders. Admission and seating on a first-come, first-served basis and advance reservations are not taken. The box office opens one hour before curtain.
