SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Shepherd University Martinsburg Center has received a $3,000 Youth and Education Grant from the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation (EWVCF) to provide scholarships for high school students enrolled in Shepherd’s dual enrollment program. The scholarships will be available for one year beginning January 1, 2021.

“It is expected in spring 2021 that 16 high school students could receive direct support for mitigating the cost of dual enrollment credit, which would eliminate the entire cost of one three-credit course,” said Jim Klein, Martinsburg Center director, who secured the grant. Klein anticipates some of the money may also be used to help offset textbook costs.

The Community Foundation was established in 1995 and awards nearly $1 million in grants and scholarships annually. With 250 endowed funds and assets of just more than $30 million, EWVCF is one of the largest grantmaking organizations serving the Eastern Panhandle.
