SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s chapter of the Kappa Delta Pi education honor society will host a Literacy Carnival geared toward children age 10 and under on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m.-1p.m. on the White Hall and Little House lawn, 110 E. High St., Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the event. The rain date will be Saturday, April 20.

This event will promote literacy initiatives. Children will be encouraged to fully immerse themselves in reading and will create crafts and participate in games. Kappa Delta Pi members will lead attendees in various storybook-themed carnival games. Fun activities will include a bounce house, petting zoo with chickens and goats, and rubber duck race in the Town Run.

There will be boxes for donations toward Kappa Delta Pi’s fundraiser, “Books and Balls.” The honor society is collecting donations of gently used books that will go with students traveling to study in Kenya this summer. The students will present the donations to Kenyan schools in need.

All financial proceeds go toward Kappa Delta Pi and its effort to enhance reading amongst students and support the organization’s collaborations as educators. For additional information, email Emily Baker or keep up to date with the honor society via Instagram @_kdp_su.
