SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Jefferson Security Bank has made a $5,000 donation to the Shepherd University Foundation’s William E. and Jo Ann Jackson Knode Scholarship Endowment. The donation honors longtime Shepherd supporter and 1958 graduate William E. “Bill” Knode, Jr. for his demonstrated unwavering dedication and generosity that embodies the spirit of the Shepherd community.

Posing with a portrait of Bill Knode at Jefferson Security Bank are (l. to r.) Cindy Kitner, JSB president and CEO; Frederick Parsons, JSB board chair; Brant Lowe, JSB board director; Monica Lingenfelter, Shepherd University Foundation executive vice president and JSB board corporate secretary; and Dennis Barron, JSB board director.

Knode, who died in December 2021, was a member of the Jefferson Security Bank (JSB) board of directors for more than 50 years and was the owner of W.H. Knode’s Sons, a Southern States affiliate in Shepherdstown from 1942 until it closed in 2010. During his time at Shepherd, Knode pursued a degree in business administration and was in the Shepherd marching band. Shepherd was also where he met his wife, Jo Ann.

Following his graduation, Knode’s ties to the University persisted. He served on the Shepherd University Foundation Board of Directors, was a member of the Shepherd University Alumni Association, and a trustee of McMurran Hall. In every role, he provided consistent support and direction for his alma mater. Bill and Jo Ann established the William E. and Jo Ann Jackson Knode Scholarship in 2006.

During Knode’s leadership at JSB in various Board of Directors roles, including chair, he fervently and consistently advocated for JSB to remain an independent community bank. Under his guidance, JSB maintained its community-driven mission, and was able to expand locations and increase its assets.
