Early childhood music and adult piano classes begin January 18

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Shepherd University Department of Music, Community Music Division, announces the spring semester dates for Early Childhood Music classes for children 18 months-5 years, with a caregiver, taught by Frauke Higgins. Children will experience songs, rhythm games, acoustic instruments and Orff instruments.

Tuition for the classes is $140 and they will take place for 10 weeks on Friday mornings in the Frank Center, January 18-March 29, except February 22. The two classes offered are Musical Discoveries for 18 months-3 years old, with caregiver, Fridays, 9:15–10 a.m., and Music for Preschoolers, for ages 3-5 with caregiver, Fridays, 10–10:45 a.m.

In addition, the Community Music Division is offering adult piano classes offered with instructor Susan Carpenter, adjunct music professor. These classes are for adults who have always wanted to learn to play the piano and for those who used to play but would like to refresh their skills. Carpenter uses curriculum from an online resource at www.musicalmomentsrmm.com. Classes will meet for 10 weeks on Wednesdays at 4 p.m., 5:15 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. January 30-April 10. There will be no class on Wednesday, March 13, due to spring break. Tuition is $120 for the 10-week class. Three levels of piano classes will be offered, based on level of piano playing ability.
