Dining Services support local groups during community day

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University Dining Services partnered with Shepherdstown Shares for Aramark’s global day of giving, Aramark Building Community Day (ABC Day) on May 2. ABC Day engages thousands of volunteers from 13 countries who dedicate their time, energy, and expertise to service projects in their local neighborhoods.

Aramark volunteers during 2024 ABC DayA total of 21 volunteers participated with the local outreach group during the annual event, which retail food service manager Katy Mong-Waldeck called an astounding success.

“Our projects this year had a profound impact, thanks to the dedication of our volunteers,” Mong-Waldeck said.
Aramark, the food service provider for Shepherd holds an annual Global Day of Service.

Mong-Waldeck said the event is part of the organization’s mission to give back.

“Aramark is dedicated to building vibrant communities,” she said. “Participation in Aramark Building Community projects allows our employees to play a pivotal role in positively impacting people.”

Volunteers from the University’s dining service helped serve 150 meals during a community event, collected more than 300 items for a food drive, provided 1.5 hours of assistance to the Shepherdstown Shares Food Pantry, and utilized ABC Day grant funding to purchase four new commercial carts for the pantry.

“I extend sincere gratitude to all our volunteers for their selfless contributions,” Mong-Waldeck said.

The Shepherdstown Visitors Center, the Shepherdstown Community Club, and the Shepherdstown Lions Club formed Shepherdstown Shares during the government shutdown of 2018-19.

Their mission is to respond to any crisis that threatens the lives, vitality, and prosperity of the Shepherdstown community.
