Debate and Forensics Team ends tournament year in second place

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Debate and Forensics Team was highly successful at the end-of-season CFA –at –the Beach tournament hosted by the Collegiate Forensics Association in Ocean City, Maryland, on March 3 and 4. The Rams won second place in the overall sweepstakes for the entire year. Olivia Stevens took first place in one category and was among eight team members winning yearlong awards.

Those bringing home awards for overall placement for the 2022-23 tournament cycle include:

Outstanding Novice Award (high placements in first year)—Ryan Barlow and Josiah Wink
Poetry Interpretation—Olivia Stevens, first place
Single Dramatic Interpretation—Alonzo Perry, first place
Dramatic Duo Interpretation—Jackson Heath, runner up
After-Dinner Speaking—Ross Clark, runner up
Parliamentary Debate—Danielle Moran, runner up
John Mingus Pan-Interpretation Award (across all the interpretation events)—Olivia Stevens, runner up
Graduating Seniors Awards—Chloe Bailey, Alonzo Perry, Kevin Knotts, and Ryan Barlow

Single Dramatic Interpretation—Olivia Stevens, first place; Chloe Bailey, third place
After-Dinner Speaking—Ross Clark, second place
Lincoln-Douglas Debate—Alonzo Perry, second place; and Phoenix Herman, third place
Poetry Interpretation—Olivia Stevens, second place; Sophia Mayrand, fifth place; and Chelsea Wells, sixth place
Dramatic Duo Interpretation—Olivia Stevens/Jackson Heath, second place; and Kevin Knotts/Ryan Barlow, fifth place
Parliamentary Debate Teams—Danielle Moran/Alonzo Perry, second place; Jackson Heath/Leah Owens, fourth place; and Chloe Bailey/Phoenix Herman, sixth place
Communication Analysis—Chelsea Wells, third place

Collegiate Forensic Association member teams participating in CFA on the Beach were Bloomsburg University, Randolph-Macon College, University of Lynchburg, West Chester University, Appalachian State University, Lafayette College, Lenoir-Rhyne University, and University of Richmond.
