SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Shepherd University Debate and Forensics Team had a great start to its season at Bloomsburg University the first weekend in October—placing second in the team sweepstakes competition. Seventeen students competed, nearly double from last year. On Saturday, October 1, the team received more than 20 final placements in various events.
Congratulations to all the students who received a finals placement:
- Chloe Bailey—first place, Dramatic Duo Interpretation with partner Jackson Heath; and sixth place, Prose Interpretation
- Jackson Heath—first place, Dramatic Duo Interpretation with partner Chloe Bailey
- Nick Marsico—first place, Informative Speaking; second place, Dramatic Duo Interpretation with partner Kevin Knotts; fifth place, Poetry Interpretation; and sixth place, Persuasive Speaking
- Danielle Moran—first place, Extemporaneous Speaking; third place, Impromptu Speaking; and fifth place, Parliamentary Debate Team with partner Alonzo Perry
- Ross Clark—second place, After Dinner Speaking
- Ian Kelly—second place, Lincoln-Douglas Debate
- Kevin Knotts—second place, Dramatic Duo Interpretation with partner Nick Marsico; and fifth Place Impromptu Speaking
- Alonzo Perry—second place, Single Dramatic Interpretation; fifth place, Parliamentary Debate Team with partner Danielle Moran; and fifth place, Parliamentary Debate Speaker
- Joshua Gossard—third place, Persuasive Speaking; and sixth place, Impromptu Speaking

Coach Ilynn Brennan and Team Captain Chloe Bailey are excited by the number of finals placements in last weekend’s tournament and cannot wait to see how the rest of the season goes.
The Debate and Forensics Team will travel to Ottowa, Canada, to continue the competition season later in October. The public is invited to a tournament hosted by Shepherd November 4-5 in White and Knutti halls.
