SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Police brutality in low- to middle-income communities and communities of color will be the topic of Shepherd University’s next Criminal Justice Lecture Series on Wednesday, April 12, at 1:10 p.m. via Zoom. The public is invited to hear Emily Cole for a talk titled “Centering Impacted Families in Transforming the Criminal Legal System.” Cole is co-founder and executive director of Ohio Families Unite for Political Action and Change and political director for Ohio Families Unite Against Police Brutality.

In addition to discussing police brutality in some U.S. communities, Cole will explain how the voices of those directly impacted must drive the conversation when building transformative justice systems.

Cole is a 2012 Shepherd graduate, earning her Bachelor of Science degrees in economics and political science. After graduation, Cole moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she earned her master’s degree in public administration from The Ohio State University John Glenn College of Public Affairs.
