SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Contemporary American Theater Festival (CATF) received an Organizational Medallion for Excellence in Support of the Arts during the Governor’s Arts Awards Gala at the Culture Center in Charleston on March 10. CATF is one of 50 organizations from across West Virginia receiving an etched glass medallion as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the National Endowment for the Arts.
This is the third time CATF has received a Governor’s Arts Award. Ed Herendeen, founder and producing director, said getting an award like this validates what CATF has accomplished.
“I am personally proud because back in 1991, 25 years ago when we started the theater festival, we were invited to Charleston to tell our story and what our dream was,” Herendeen said. “We’ve been so fortunate that the state of West Virginia, the Division of Culture and History, and all the governors, have been very supportive and many have told me how proud they are of what we’ve accomplished in the Eastern Panhandle, in Shepherdstown West Virginia, and on this beautiful campus of Shepherd University.”
