Community Music program announces return of summer music camps

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Shepherd University School of Music’s Community Music program announces the return of its summer camps.

Jazz camps

The senior and junior Jazz Camps will take place June 20-24. The cost is $310 for students in grades 9-12 and $185 for those in grades 6-8. College students and jazz enthusiasts are also welcomed to participate.

Highlights of the camp include jazz band rehearsals, a concert for both the junior and senior levels, individual and group coaching, combo/improvisation classes, theory classes, master classes, and faculty performances.

The senior camp will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with a final concert on June 24 at 2 p.m. The junior camp will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., with a final concert on June 24 at 1 p.m.

String Orchestra camps

The senior and junior String Orchestra Camps will also take place June 20-24 and the cost is $310 for students grades 9-12 and $150 grades 6-8. This camp is for students who play violin, viola, cello, and bass.

Senior String Orchestra Camp will run from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. There will be two final performances on Friday, June 24, at 1 and 2 p.m.

Junior String Orchestra Camp will run from 9 a.m.-noon, with a final concert on June 24 at noon.

Woodwind camp

New this year is a Woodwind Camp that will run from June 27-July 1 from 9 a.m.-noon. The cost is $150.

This camp is for rising 7-12 graders who play flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone and have at least a year of experience in a school ensemble or private lessons. There will be masterclasses, large and small ensembles, and coaching from experienced professionals.
