SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Career Services is hosting a free virtual career fair on Thursday, October 15, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. that is open to all Shepherd students and alumni. Participants must have an account with Handshake—a free posting site for employers to connect with students and young alumni from more than 500 U.S. colleges.

Melissa Markey, Shepherd career advisor, said at least 30 companies will be represented from several sectors, including nonprofit organizations, businesses, public school systems, and local governments.

“Handshake is hosting this event for us and they were able to develop a system to create one-on-one sessions and group information sessions to connect students and employers,” Markey said. “Some employers might be conducting on the spot interviews. Students and alumni will be able to practice online interviewing skills and meet with folks from the industries they intend to work for or intern with while here at Shepherd or post-graduation.”

Markey said while the event is scheduled from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., participants do not need to stay the entire time. This time frame just allows students and alumni to sign-up for the one-on-one or group sessions that fit best with their schedules.
