Board of Governors approves tuition and fees increase, academic reorganization

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Shepherd University Board of Governors approved a 3.1 percent tuition and fees increase for in-state students and a 1 percent increase for out-of-state students for fall semester 2019 during its February 14 meeting.

Tuition for undergraduate in-state residents will increase by $118 per semester (from $3,774 to $3,892) and undergraduate out-of-state tuition will increase by $88 per semester (from $9,024 to $9,112).

In-state graduate tuition will increase by $16 per credit hour (from $459 to $475), and out-of-state graduate tuition will increase by $29 per credit hour (from $660 to $689). The Doctor of Nursing Practice degree will remain at $696 per credit hour without an increase.

The board also approved a 1.95 percent increase in room rates for Shaw and Thacher halls (a $55 increase per semester) and a 2 percent increase for Potomac Place (a $64 increase per semester). Suite and apartment-style housing rates will not increase. Meal plans will experience an average 3.5 percent rate.

In other business, the Board of Governors approved a reorganization of academic units, which includes renamed and merged colleges and the establishment of five professional schools. The approved organization model will provide cost savings and academic streamlining. The reorganization will be implemented August 13, 2019.
