SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Rude Mechanicals Medieval and Renaissance Players announce auditions for the Renaissance bloody revenge tragedy, John Webster’s “The Duchess of Malfi,” on Wednesday, August 26, and Thursday, August 27, from 8:30-10:30 p.m. in Reynolds Hall. There are multiple roles, both large and small, for men and women, and a diverse cast is highly desirable. Tech crew, dancers, singers, musicians, video artists, and costume designers are also needed.
Webster wrote “The Duchess of Malfi” in 1612-13, and it was performed at the Globe Theater in London in 1613-14. The play, which is loosely based on actual events, is the story of an Italian duchess who marries below her class after her husband dies. Her two brothers, however, oppose her decision to remarry and take actions that end in tragedy.
The Rude Mechanicals will perform “The Duchess of Malfi” November 6-14. For more information, contact Betty Ellzey at 304-876-5208 or by email at bellzey@shepherd.edu.
