‘Anthology of Appalachian Writers’ editors nominate six writers for Pushcart Prize

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Six writers from Shepherd University’s Anthology of Appalachian Writers: Crystal Wilkinson Volume have been nominated by Anthology editors for the Pushcart Prize, which publishes a volume each year that highlights the best work from small presses.

The nominees are Wilkinson for “Oretha”; Frank X Walker, “The Unwashed Herd”; Ron Davis, “Chrissy, From the Creek”; Jessica Salfia, “Fear”; E. J. Wade, “I Was Not There”; and Omaria Sanchez Pratt, “Blood Sisters on the Ghost Train.”

The Anthology of Appalachian Writers is published each year with a different theme that includes fiction, poetry, essays, and creative nonfiction connected to Shepherd’s Appalachian Heritage Writer-in-Residence and the West Virginia Center for the Book’s One Book, One West Virginia common read program.

Shepherd’s Center for Appalachian Studies and Communities manages the project, which is funded by the West Virginia Humanities Council, West Virginia Library Commission, and Shepherd University Foundation.
