SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Visitors to Shepherdstown can get a feel for what the holidays were like at the time of the Civil War during Shepherd University’s 2017 Civil War Christmas Thursday, November 30, through Saturday, December 2. The event, which is free and open to the public, is organized by the George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War and Shepherd’s Department of History.
The Civil War Christmas schedule is:
Thursday, November 30
- 6 p.m.—Village Brass Quintet, Reynolds Hall, 109 North King St.
- 6:30 p.m.—“Civil War and the Environment” presented by John Martin McMillan and Dr. James Broomall, Reynolds Hall, 109 North King St.
Friday, December 1
- 3 p.m.—Building of Military Encampment, George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War, 136 West German St.
- 6:30-7:30 p.m.—“How Innovation and Dedication Improved Transportation, Medical and Surgical Care, and Hospital Treatment of the Union Wounded” presented by Stephen A. Goldman, M.D., FAPM, DFAPA, Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, 100 West Washington St.
- 7:30 p.m.—Candlelight Tour of Shepherdstown Field Hospitals and Military Encampments, meet outside the Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, 100 West Washington St.
