SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Agricultural Innovation Center (Tabler Farm) is launching a Sustainable Agriculture Workshop Series with a workshop titled “High Tunnel Fall Crop Production” on Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuition for the workshop, which is designed for market gardeners, small farmers, and home gardeners, is $30, check or cash, paid that day. Each participant will receive a four-inch potted plant.
The hands-on course will cover the following topics:
- Choosing cold tolerant crop varieties
- Bed preparation and seeding
- Non-chemical ecological management practices for insect and fungal pathogen control
- Irrigation design and water management
To reach the Agriculture Innovation Center, take Route 45 west for 1.12 miles; turn right onto Old Martinsburg Rd.; in two tenths of a mile turn right onto Billmyer Mill Rd.; and in approximately half a mile turn right onto a gravel drive just before the tractor crossing sign.
