The Shepherd University Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the Margaret M. Drennen Women’s Golf Endowment. The fund is the first endowment for women’s golf at Shepherd and was established by Hank and Dale Walter in memory of Dale’s mother, Maggie Drennen. Shepherd will be adding women’s golf for the 2018-19 season. Men’s golf coach Chuck Ingram will also serve as head coach for the women’s program.
The endowment gift was presented to Ingram at the start of the July 27 Men’s and Women’s Golf Team Tournament at Cress Creek in Shepherdstown. Ingram expressed his gratitude to the Walters and spoke about how important scholarships will be to the new women’s program.
Maggie Drennen and her late husband, Judge William Drennen, developed The Club at Cress Creek with the assistance of their daughter and son-in-law, Dale and Hank Walter. Maggie Drennen was respected and admired as a strong woman who supported many worthy organizations. She loved the game of golf and was a strong advocate for women.
This permanently invested fund will provide scholarships for female student-athletes and other financial support to strengthen the women’s golf program.
