RAM Band Application

**Due to safety concerns related to the Covid-19 pandemic, our administration and athletic conference (PSAC East) have prudently postponed all fall 2020 sports until spring 2021.
Consequently, we have moved Ram Band (marching band) to the spring semester 2021. Fall 2020 band will now be Wind Symphony (concert band). Students please adjust course enrollment as necessary and check this website regularly for updates

The Ram Band is one of the highlights of Shepherd University. Each year, the band is seen by over 30,000 people as it plays extensively on the road. The Ram Band is not limited to music majors and is open to all university students.

The Field Commanders are unknown at this time. The Band Staff includes Staff Arranger Frank Mahoney, Color Guard Instructors Kathy Windle and Meredith Wheeler, Marching & Visual Instructor John Karos, Percussion Instructor Steve Hensley, Frontline Instructor Jane Mahoney, Drill Writer Dan Kalantarian, and Director of Bands Dr. Scott Hippensteel.

2020 marks the return of the Big Bad Shepherd Swing Band! Join the Ram Band’s Harlem Renaissance, Harlem 1940, as we celebrate our musical heritage with great music from the swing era giants Duke Ellington, Ray Noble, Cab Calloway, and Billy Strayhorn. Harlem 1940 features: Take the A Train, Harlem Nocturne (saxophone feature), Minnie the Moocher (Jerel Parker, vocals) and It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing.
