Lauren Frick is a dynamic mezzo-soprano from Central Pennsylvania, known for her powerful voice, commanding stage presence, and nuanced character portrayals. A graduate of the Longy School of Music of Bard College, she holds both a Master of Music degree and a Graduate Performance Diploma in Opera. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Voice Performance, magna cum laude, from Shepherd University—Go Rams!As a resident artist with Thompson Street Opera in Louisville, Kentucky, Lauren premiered several new works and performed a variety of operatic roles. Last spring, she returned to Shepherd University as the soloist in the world premiere of Sprinkle Coal Dust on My Grave by Walker Williams with the Masterworks Chorale. She is also a member of West Virginia’s only professional choir, Renatum, under the baton of Dr. Jason Strunk.
Lauren has established herself as a frequent performer in South Florida and throughout the Mid-Atlantic, appearing in numerous operas, concerts, and special events. Career highlights include performing alongside Christine Goerke and Alan Held during the inaugural season of the Wagner Institute at the Miami Music Festival, an experience she was honored to reprise the following summer. Her operatic and concert repertoire includes Mrs. De Rocher in Dead Man Walking, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, Ruth in The Pirates of Penzance, the Old Lady in Candide, Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Mamma Lucia in Cavalleria Rusticana, Alto Rhapsody by Johannes Brahms, Messiah by George Frideric Handel, and many others.
Critics have consistently praised Lauren’s voice. South Florida Classical Review described her as possessing a “warmly colored mezzo,” while Boston Classical Review noted her “resonant and ripe” sound with “seamless transitions across all registers.” Whether on stage, in the classroom, or leading arts organizations, Lauren is dedicated to creating meaningful musical experiences that inspire performers, audiences, and communities alike.
Beyond the stage, Lauren is a passionate arts administrator and educator committed to expanding access to high-quality music education and performance opportunities. She served as the Director of Education and Social Entrepreneurship at Florida Grand Opera, where she oversaw innovative education and community engagement initiatives that reach more than 20,000 students and community members across South Florida each year. She also serves as the Administrator for Friends of Music in Shepherdstown, supporting the organization’s chamber music concert series, educational initiatives, and community partnerships, and as the Executive Director of Renatum, West Virginia’s professional chamber choir, where she helps advance the organization’s artistic vision, fundraising, marketing, and strategic growth. Lauren is especially excited to return to her alma mater as the Community Music Coordinator at Shepherd University, where she looks forward to building accessible, high-quality music programming that serves learners of all ages while strengthening connections between the University and the surrounding community.
