All generators of hazardous waste are responsible for the proper management of their containers of waste. Including the selection, management and storage of hazardous waste.
Container Selection
Before collecting a waste, generators need to select a suitable container for the waste that will be collected. Generators should collect waste in containers that are:
- Compatible with the waste that they will hold.
- Leak-proof and structurally sound. There should be no signs of obvious damage, bulging, cracking or leaking.
All hazardous waste streams to be generated in containers greater than 5 gallons or generated in amounts greater than 5 gallons or 40 pounds in one calendar month are required to notify the Campus Environmental Safety Coordinator.
