Brightspace Tools for Teaching Effectiveness

Click on the links below to see how to incorporate the following Brightspace tools

Basic Tools

  • Video Notes Use Video Notes to establish presence in online classes. Using video, students can submit their responses to discussions or instructors can leave feedback or instructions to add a personal touch.
  • Accessible Templates Use these built in templates to clearly present content and ensure that it is accessible to learners.
  • Turnitin-enabled Assignments Use Turnitin as a tool to teach about and prevent plagiarism. Share this handout so students know how to access Turnitin via Brightspace, and have students check their drafts, making sure all highlighted information is properly cited.

    Intermediate Tools

    • Content Reports Use this tool to get a glimpse of how many students are engaging with content posted on Brightspace and how long on average they’re spending on the content.
    • Rubrics This tool provides students with transparency during the grading process. It also allows them to see what they will be graded on prior to submitting an assignment.

    Advanced Tools

    • Intelligent Agents This tool automates messages to students to nudge students to act or reinforce positive behavior.
    • Awards Use this tool to gamify courses and award students badges upon completion of certain criteria.
