Accessibility Services

Due to COVID-19, Shepherd University has instituted many policies in order to maintain the well-being of the entire university community. More information can be found on the Shepherd University COVID-19 Webpage. The Accessibility Services Office is here to support students this semester to help them succeed while these policies are in place.

Remote Learning Request for Students with Disabilities and/or Accommodations

Included in the Shepherd University COVID policies is the requirement that everyone wears face masks and/or face shields when on campus. Some students may be unable to use these face coverings on campus due to a documented disability.  Students who have disabilities and are therefore at increased health risk coming to campus may also seek to have accommodations.

The process for these accommodations would follow the guidelines already put in place. Students need to fill out an Accommodation Request Form on the Accessibility Services Rampulse Page and provide appropriate documentation. Once processed, our office will be in contact with the student regarding their accommodation and how to move forward with their classes.

Professors may contact our office for support to help accommodate these students.

Note: The Accessibility Services Office is committed to the best learning environment for every student. Some classes may not be able to provide an adequate learning environment online. For example, a lab-based course in which the in-person experience is vital to the learning objectives. Our office will work closely with professors in this instance and make decisions on an individual case-by-case basis. However, if possible, the student may elect to take the course during a future semester in order to fulfill the requirement.

Remote Learning Request for Students Without Disabilities and/or Accommodations

Some students may wish to utilize Remote Learning for reasons that are not related to a disability. The Accessibility Services Office does not process these requests. If a student wishes to have Remote Learning for reasons that are not related to a disability, the student should work with their academic advisors and individual professors. Many courses have already been moved online, and a student may elect to adjust their schedule to take solely online courses in order to ensure a Remote Learning environment.
