Since 1993, the Shepherd University Police Department has been a proud member of the Shepherd community. We are pleased to have an officer on duty 24/7 to serve and protect our campus, its members, and visitors. Our department, led by Chief John McAvoy, is comprised of three sergeants, multiple full time and part time officers, and K-9 Officer Cooper.
In addition to assuring and maintaining a safe environment, the Police Department offers trainings, courtesy services, parking services, and student employment opportunities.
Our primary responsibility is to provide a safe environment for our community members. Providing a safe environment will allow our community members to:
- inspire student learning and development
- optimize potential of faculty and staff
- create a beautiful and welcoming campus
- stimulate the culture and economic development of the region
In every aspect of performing our duties, we will provide students, faculty, staff, and visitors with exceptional customer service. We are committed to solving the problem, conflict, or concern we encounter during our tour of duty.
Additionally, the University’s police department will provide an ethical, people-oriented work environment where our officers, staff, and students may enjoy their jobs, utilize their talents, respect one another, and grow as individuals.
To provide exceptional customer service to our community we serve.
